Workshop organized by the Lithuanian Social Research Centre
“Challenges to the Welfare State Systems in Baltic and Nordic countries”
to be held on 19-20th of September 2019.
The aim of the workshop is to discuss challenges faced by welfare regimes in contemporary Baltic and Nordic societies, with a focus on the pension insurance and family support systems. Special attention will be paid to the latest developments from 2007 up to now. The economic and financial crisis was experienced in the Baltic and Nordic region in different years, and to different degrees, and policy measures implemented to overcome the crisis varied across countries. This period is also characterized by new demographic challenges, which can have long-term consequences for the future of the welfare state systems.
Contributions (in English) as original papers are invited regarding the following topics:
– Family policy and gender equality in the Baltic and Nordic countries;
– Pension protection in the Baltic and Nordic countries.
In addition to comparative papers, case studies will be also considered for presentation. The best papers presented at the workshop will be invited to be included in the edited volume “Challenges to the Welfare State Systems in Baltic and Nordic countries.”

Researchers interested in presenting full papers are invited to submit a title and abstract via email to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
The deadline for abstract submission: 18 of February 2019.
Notification of the decision: 4 of March.
Full papers due in: 1 of August 2019.
The number of participants will be limited. There is no registration fee, but participants are expected to cover their own accommodations and travel expenses. Coffee breaks and lunch will be provided free of charge to all participants whose papers will be accepted for presentation.
