The Director of the Lithuanian Social Research Centre (LSRC) Dr. S. Mikulioniene and the Head of the Labor Market Research Institute of the LSRC Dr. B. Gruzevskis took part in the Lithuanian Demography Forum organized by the Office of the Government of Lithuania on June 21, 2018. LSRC researchers discussed the impact of demographic changes (in particular implications of depopulation and ageing of the population) on the socioeconomic development of the country. They highlighted the need for a highly responsible implementation of tax reform and the improvement of labor market policy mechanisms, given that the number of labor market leavers starting from 2020 (up to 2040, and probably even longer) will exceed the number of new entrants to labor market. S. Mikulioniene and B. Gruzevskis participated in the thematic discussions and made proposals for improvement of social and employment policy.
